Prompt 2. Medical Technology can be seen to increase life expectancy. Is it a curse or a blessing?

Introductory Paragraph

Sentence 1: Many people who want to live to old age may depend on medical technology.

Sentence 2: Although some people consider medical technology beneficial, others assert it can be a detriment.

Sentence 3: This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of medical technology and explain why the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Paragraph 1

Sentence 1: Medical technology can be used to save and preserve lives by preventing death.

Sentence 2: There are several ways technology can save lives, allowing people to live longer.

Sentence 3: For example, electric defibrillators, which are found in most shopping centers, can jump-start a person’s heart if it starts to fibrillate.

Sentence 4: Other medical technologies work to help people monitor blood sugar levels or even

their heartbeat; all working to prevent early deaths.

Paragraph 2

Sentence 1: Technology should not be used to extend a person’s life in the short term.

Sentence 2: The highest percentage of people using medical technology are older people who themselves are monitored daily.

Sentence 3: Without technology to help them, older people might die immediately; for these people, life expectancy is not something to be anticipated.

Sentence 4: Therefore, medical technology is not unlike a curse.

Conclusion

Sentence 1: In conclusion, this essay has shown two different sides of medical technology.

Sentence 2: In my opinion, technology is most beneficial in society because a person’s desire to live far outweighs the other alternative. (209 words)
