Position: spend money on consumes

  1. Introduction

Neutral statement: Costumes are important when doing a production of a play.

Implicit thesis statement: Detailed costumes that support the exact period of a theatre production are important.

Explicit thesis statement: I believe that costumes must fit the period of the play’s production, so money spent here is never wasted.

  1. Body Paragraph

Topic sentence: There are many reasons why costumes are critical to a theatrical play. First of all, people that come to the theatre want to be entertained. The best way to entertain is by making them believe, through their imagination, that this play is true to life, so costumes are an important segue to allow people to believe what is being portrayed before them. Besides, nobody would believe it is queen Elizabeth before them if she were not wearing a ruffed neckpiece, a crown, and jewels.  Further, costumes also make the theatre experience contiguous if all the characters, the major and minor ones, are wearing costumes that detail their position, as you would expect a beggar to wear realistic motley when on stage.

In conclusion, people accept the veracity of a play if the clothes the actors are wearing are suitable and accurate for the time period.
