Typical IELTS SPEAKING ASSESSMENT PROMPTS

Assessment 1
Describe your favourite animal
• What kind of animal is it?
• What environment does the animal live in?
• Describe it briefly.
Explain why you like this animal.

Assessment 2
Describe your favourite photograph
• Where was the photo taken?
• Who took the photo?
• What can be seen from the photo?
Explain why it is your favourite photograph.

Assessment 3
Describe an area of your country you know and like
• Where is it?
• What are its special features?
• What do you and other people do in this area?
Explain why you like it.

Assessment 4
Describe a gift you have received
• What is it?
• Who gave it to you?
• When did you receive it?
Explain why it is significant to you.

Assessment 5
Describe a party you have been to
• Who was the party for?
• Why was the party held?
• Where was the party?
Explain why you did or didn’t enjoy it
