Praxis: Look at a photograph and describe what you see.

TIPS:

In your first sentence describe or state the main object in the photo

Write more than one sentence if you have time.

For example:

You must know how to create an Organized response: Topic sentence + detail (in the foreground, in the background).

This is an image of a cow in a field. In the background, I can see two or three other cows. The cow is standing on green grass.

Example: Write About the Photo

The method for ‘Write about the Photo’ is always the same – describe what you see. So, you must write a topic sentence first and add a sentence or two to get a high mark. The directions ask for 1 sentence, but you should try to write 2 or 3.

Method:

1. Describe what you see – generally.
2. Write a sentence about the foreground (Use the ‘foreground’ – in front of the subject(s))
3. Write a sentence about the background. (Use the word ‘background’ – behind the subject(s))

OR 4. Write about how you feel when you look at this picture.

For the picture above:

The image shows a woman and a boy on a boat. In the foreground, I see the boy is sitting on the woman’s lap. In the background, I can see 2 or 3 islands and the stirred-up water behind the boat.

OR

The image shows a woman and a boy on a boat. They look to be a mother and son as the boy is sitting in the mother’s lap. They look happy on the water together. Of course, you can write 1 sentence, but a second and/ or a third sentence will help you get a higher score.
